Biren is featured on Live Well Magazine, May-June 2011 Issue! She says she hopes to film a movie. Here's the full interview:

The Best of Biren
Huang Biren needs no introduction to Singaporeans. She’s been voted All Time Favourite Artiste Award, Star Awards 2009, was a Best Actress Nominee at the Asian Television Awards 2007, and has made the top 10 list of most popular female artistes in nearly every year since 1997.

She’s played some of the most demanding roles on local television, a gambling addict and in the process acquired the nickname of “the Meryl Streep of MediaCorp”. We caught up with this leading lady as she enjoys her well-deserved break from the hustle and bustle of filming.

LW: What to you is the definition of living well?
Biren: If you know how to live your life, then you’re living well.

LW: can you tell us some of the pitfalls we might experience when we’re trying to discover how to live our lives?
BIREN: You must have a very crystal clear mind about how you want to live your life. When you know basically what you want life to be, its a matter of when you achieve it. Then, take things easy. If you go according to your plans, you then have a goal in life. You’ll taking things easier, and things will go smoother for yourself.

LW: So would you say you’re getting there or you’re already there?
BIREN:I’m still learning actually. It’s a journey of learning. You can’t say you’ve reached the limit no matter what. I’m always constantly absorbing new information.

LW: Do you find that your previous experience as an actress helps you in any way to balance family and work?
BIREN: Definitely it does. As an artiste, actually, it helps one way or another to better communicate with the children.

LW: We notice that you’re the ambassador for Ginvera Grorich Anti-Dandruff Shampoo as well as BeauteHub.
BIREN: GroRich has products ranging from shampoo to conditioner, which if you use everyday, basically these products help a lot with the condition of your hair. And the BeauteHub endorsement came at just the right time because I was just giving birth then.

LW: Did you have any previous problems with your hair at the time?
BIREN: Yes. I had hair loss problems, especially due to hormonal imbalances while I was pregnant. When you are pregnant you’re bound to have hair loss because of hormones. And as an actress, I have to keep my hair long... So during that time, my hair loss was quite alarming. One pass of the comb through my hair and a whole clump of hair came off - it was distressing.

LW: So it’s not just an endorsement deal? You wholeheartedly recommend grorich products?
BIREN: Yes! They are in my shower room ... and a part of my life. My hair now is healthier and fuller than before.

LW: You have acted in so many drama series, would it be possible for you to point to a particular role that is dear to your heart?
BIREN: It’s quite impossible to just point out one... I have a few that are quite memorable to me.
LW: This is probably the last question, in the future, do you have think there is a chance you’ll go back into acting? Or in other words, what kind of plans do you have for your future?
BIREN:I don’t exactly have er so called plans yet but I really really wish that in the future I can make a movie, because for my 20 over years in the industries, I haven’t had a chance to appear on the big screen. There were people who approached with offers but the production did not materialize. So I really hope that i will be able to have a chance to do just one movie.

LW: We’re sure someone will find you and give you a worthy role for you to sink your teeth into.
BIREN: I hope so. It’s really my dream. But if something happens, hopefully it materialises before my child’s PSLE because I’ll be very very busy then.

Biren was interviewed in today's (Mon, 27 Jun) ST Life! in one of the articles featuring Pan Ling Ling. Quote:

"Life! later spoke to one of her friends and acting peers about this, former award-winning MediaCorp actress Huang Biren, 41, who says: "Every actor needs to 'kai qiao' (Chinese for getting one's ideas together) and know how to draw the audiences in with his performance."

Huang, who has known Pan for more than 20 years, adds: "I believe that's what the producers meant when they said her acting was not 'real'. But it depends on them to 'wake' the actors up."

... But Huang says after watching Breakout on TV, she was confident that Pan would get the award: "The character she played is not as loud compared to the ones by Cynthia Koh and Ann Kok, but I felt it had more depth to it."

黄碧仁2008年离开新传媒，目前在家专心相夫教子，昨晚她难得亮相，身材保持得宜，状态不错。

她接受访问时说："我蛮想念大家的，今天以颁奖人身份出席所以没有压力，我觉得当颁奖人也是一种提升。"

黄碧仁的小孩，一个11岁，一个3岁，最小的只有11个月，但她身材保持得很好，丝毫看不出是三个孩子的妈。

入行超过20年，佳作无数，3度获颁视后，是电视台的戏霸，《红星大奖》备受瞩目的名单必有她。目前在家相夫教子，和她敲定时间做访问，她说不好意思忙着喂奶、看孩子，晚点打来行不行？生活重心已经转移。坐上神台很开心，对于奖项，重要性已不如前。

1) 今年会出席《红星大奖》吗？心情如何？

会，既然要颁这么大的奖给我，我当然要出席。心情很不同，以往10大不一定有我的份，成绩揭晓之前，多少会紧张。但“超级红星”肯定是我的，搞不好已经刻上了我的名字呢，我可以像惠玉和文芳一样，打扮得美美、舒舒服服地坐在台下看别人紧张。

2) 嫁到法国的林晓佩都复出了，你呢？

晓佩复出，真的吗？！今时不同往日，以前全职拍戏时有佣人、家人照顾孩子，目前没有和约在身，如果拍戏就要2、3个月的时间，我也不好意思开口请别人帮我看孩子3个月，所以暂时还不可能复出。

3) 新人辈出，哪位是阿哥阿姐接班人？

现在还分皇后、公主、王子···很乱，那我算什么呢？哈哈！我觉得这圈子需要经验丰富的演员，也需要新血。至于谁是接班人，公司决定捧谁，谁就是接班人咯。

4) 所以你还会留意娱乐圈动向？

会啊，但不会刻意去探听。至于目前的热门话题···《红星大奖》吧。铭顺5月注册、9月结婚我都知道，电视有报道嘛。我不八卦，但该知道的还是得知道啦。我也会看9点档电视剧，不会天天追看，但看到精彩的戏会特别留意是哪一位导演拍的；不好看还会抱怨几句呢。现在我是以观众的身份看戏。

5) 离开娱乐圈，你说话是否比较随心所欲，不必择言选字？

我说话一向来心直口快，以往访问前，经理人会预先‘提醒’我。现在没有人提醒我，说了什么不该说的，也不关我的事啊。我有说到什么不该说的吗？哈哈！

6) 最常跟哪一位艺人联络？

我和陈汉玮、潘玲玲、陈丽贞、金银姬、朱乐玲、何咏芳最常联络；汉玮每隔几天都会打电话跟我聊天、谈谈工作、家人和心情。前一阵子我父亲过世时，有不少艺人出席葬礼。

7) 当全职家庭主妇，最不习惯的是···

没有薪水。以往每个月25号发薪日银行都有进帐，刚开始1、2个月，真的很不习惯。现在老公的发薪日也就是我的发薪日。省吃俭用？不用啦，我不会乱花钱，也没有收集钻石的嗜好，哈。逛街时看到喜欢的东西还是会买，想吃就吃，何必对自己那么苛刻呢。

8) 走在路上还有观众跟你打招呼？

有，反应比以前更热烈。不少人对我说，“你什么时候回去拍戏？回去拍戏啦，孩子给家人带就好啦···”他们的问题多到我都不知道该怎么回答，但听在耳里，真的很感动。

　　黄碧仁明年将出席红星大奖领取“超级红星大奖”，到时她的妈妈将首次坐在台下看女儿领奖，分享荣耀。

　　新传媒电视8频道昨天宣布，明年3月举行的红星大奖，将把超级红星大奖荣誉奖项颁给今年6月与新传媒约满离开的资深艺人黄碧仁。本报记者联络上黄碧仁，她说两天前接到电视台通知，很开心，“之前是完成学业，现在终于可以毕业了！”

　　她问起颁奖礼的日期，记者答是15日，她惊叫说：“啊，那是我妈妈的生日！好，那我就带她出席吧，她应该会很开心。想当年，她要我去读书，我却加入电视台，她还满失望的，现在我要把奖送给她。”

　　她说，除了自己获得十次最受欢迎女艺人奖外，今年也是她入行的20周年，所以获颁超级红星大奖对她来说别具意义。

　　已荣获超级红星大奖的艺人有郑惠玉、李南星、周初明、范文芳、谢韶光、陈莉萍，黄碧仁将是第七个。

当主妇比过去拍戏忙

　　黄碧仁这几个月专心做主妇，感言是比过去拍戏时还忙。“家里的女佣只负责煮饭和其他家务，两个孩子的事我都亲自打理，尤其是小女儿快7个月了，晚上都是我在照顾，幸好她七八点就睡了，过后我就有自己的时间，可以安心吃饭。”

　　她笑说自己都以观众的身份看电视剧，最近才看过傍晚重播自己的《三十风雨路》，偶尔看戏看到不合理的情节，她也觉得没什么，因为自己需要的是娱乐，不想动太多脑筋。至于戏瘾，她笑说，暂时还没发作。

Good news: Mediacorp yesterday announced Bi Ren will be awarded All Time Favourite Artiste Award in the upcoming Star Awards 2008. The award ceremony will be held on 15 March 2009. :) Bi Ren has won the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste for a record of 10 times, thus she gets this award. Congrats to Bi Ren and looking forward to her speech. :)

Bi Ren was in last week's I-weekly (2nd October 08) , and the interview was about handphones.

手机型号... Nokia... 不太记得是什么model，因为是我先生买的，我自己不是很在意手机什么型号。能通电话、SMS、拍照就行了。

什么时候开始用手机？应该是95年的时候。用一支Ericsson的手机，有antenna那种。

多久换一次手机？通常坏了才换。

如果忘了带手机，你会... 我时常忘记带手机，尤其是放在家里充电的时候。之后会觉得不舒服，不知道家里有没有发生事情。

传过最甜蜜/重要的简讯是... 和老公互相甜蜜的简讯。因为儿子大了，所以给他一支手机，平时他去上一些课程，我会SMS他说下课后在哪里等妈妈。

如果你是一部手机，你会是... 顺眼简单，价廉物美型的。

手机里的秘密是... 哎哟，我没有自拍啦！

你的手机铃声/桌面是... 之前录下儿子的声音作为铃声，所以电话响的时候会听到“Mummy, Mummy, answer the phone, your phone is ringing”。桌面则是我的女儿，而且我们一家人全在用“妹妹”的桌面！

知道你不续约后，我觉得非常可惜，想知道你退出是因为个人健康问题（哮喘）吗？
不是健康问题，谢谢你的关心。简单地说，续约条件达不到我的要求，吸应力还不足以让我踏出家门，哈哈。做这个决定时，挣扎了很久，但现实就是现实，改变不了也没办法。
很希望新传媒能颁发“超级红星”给你。
哈。。。是哦，我已经拿了10个“最受欢迎女艺人”奖座，就差明年的“超级红星”大奖，算圆满齐全了。没办法啦，因合约问题拿不到也勉强不来，没有什么可不可惜的。如果能像（谢）韶光一样，离开电视台还能破例获颁奖项，我当然会很愿意去拿这个大奖。
在你演过的作品当中，你最满意哪个角色？

谈不上最满意，喜欢的倒有《豹子胆》、《九层糕》、《情来运转》、《三十风雨路》，还有第一部得奖的作品《家人有约》。这些角色都让观众在荧幕上看到很不一样的黄碧仁。
当了家庭主妇后，生活上有了什么改变？

哈哈。。我不算家庭主妇啦，她们什么都做很厉害，我没有这么能干，我有女佣帮忙做家务。。不过，我会亲力亲为照顾小宝宝，大儿子的功课也是我监督。照顾一家大小的起居生活，哈哈，我还蛮适应的。
你最想观众怎样记得“黄碧仁”？

能获得“戏剧情牵25”的“最喜爱女演员”，是一个很大的肯定，希望以后当大家想起我时依旧是他们“心中的最爱”。
你还跟哪些新传媒艺人保持联络？

很多啊。。很开心，他们没有忘记我，就像早阵子，国煌和（赖）怡伶的女儿庆盛会，也有叫我出席。。其他的还有惠玉、汉玮、（陈）丽贞、（潘）玲玲、（朱）乐玲、金（银姬）姐。
在什么情况下你会考虑复出？

很难说，我不能给大家空投的承诺，最大的前提是，我一定要给小宝宝母乳6个月，现在她已经5个多月大了。这段期间，陆陆续续都有人找过我合作，但timing不对。如果遇到好的剧本、角色和条件，我或许会考虑。当然，最理想和直接的情况就是公司能answer to my request （答应我的续约要求）啦。哈哈。拍戏时我唯一也是我第一份工作，一做就20年了，在我内心深处，仍是我的最爱。
你希望女儿长大后也当演员？

我不是个专制的妈妈，还蛮开通的，我会在能力有限的范围内，给她最好的教育机会。读完书后，她就得靠自己的判断能力和智慧去选择自己要走的路，什么工作都好，一定要做得开心和充满热忱。
你是个怎样的妈妈？

我是个严母也可以说是个慈母，我疼爱孩子，但从不溺爱，把他们给宠坏。我赏罚分明，做对了，我会称赞，做错了，我会严厉惩罚。把书读好固然重要，成绩好却没EQ没人品，也没用。
平时在家里除了照顾孩子，还会做些什么？

我还会做些简单的运动，因为有哮喘，不能过于激烈。那时，产下小女儿时很胖很胖，哈哈，所以靠游泳、跑步（在健身房）来减肥，就这样持续到现在。
你通常会去哪里？

平时我会去Thomson Plaza 买日常生活用品，孩子也在附近上学，所以很方便。周末的话，如果有出去，我们会带孩子去乌节路走走。

Good news: One of Bi Ren's well known drama series, An Ode To Life (Year 2004) would be re-running from August 26, Weekdays 5.30pm on Channel 8! This drama has been said to be tailor made for Bi Ren as the role suits her very well - may look weak, but strong emotionally. :)

Consisting 40 episodes, the story spans through 30 years, mainly revolving around Ah-Zhi's (played by Bi Ren) long suffering life as she gets bullied and despised by her husband's family due to her poor family background. The drama got Highest Viewership Drama (over a million viewers) in 2004, and also earned Bi Ren a Best Actress nomination in 2004. Remember to catch it. :)

Reminder: Do remember to watch Bi Ren in 'The Hotel' Ep 16 (as Huang Yi Ren) on Tuesday Aug 19, 5.30pm Ch 8! :)

Hi all, its a long time since I last posted. This isn't a good news ; Bi Ren has left MediaCorp since 30 June 08 due to some contract issues with the company. Her resignation is indeed a loss to the TV station and I am sure many of us don't want to see her go. But all hope is not lost, she does not rule out the possibility of doing dramas in future under project basis. :) She's now a full time housewife, taking care of her 2 children. We shall respect her decision and wish her all the best. :)

碧仁在6月30日已经正式离开新传媒当家庭主妇。碧仁离开的主要原因是因为合约谈不拢; 我们都很舍不得碧仁离开电视台。可是别气馁, 碧仁说不排除复出的可能性, 只要遇到适合的角色, 酬劳达到要求, 她可能会复出。既然碧仁已经做出了决定, 我们就应该支持她。祝福碧仁一家人健康快乐。 :)

The Hotel 大酒店

Look out for the currently re-airing 2001 blockbuster drama, 'The Hotel', which every MediaCorp artiste has a part in. 'The Hotel' re-runs on every weekday, 5.30 pm. Bi Ren would appear in Episode 16 (19 August), where she starred opposite MediaCorp Ah-Ge Christopher Lee. Her role name is Huang Yi Ren. :)

也别忘了现在每个周日傍晚5点30分重播的2001年重头剧《大酒店》！碧仁将会客串演出，在第16集出现（8月19日），跟她演对手戏的就是新传媒阿哥李明顺。她的角色是黄伊仁；尽请留意！:)

Bi Ren still looks ravishing despite giving birth just 4 months ago, and she certainly lives up to her name of elegant mum. :) The show was really touching when Bi Ren cried as she talked about her grandma. Bi Ren's first television appearance after her maternity leave would be on the variety show, 'Glamour Mum and The Dude', where she is known as Elegant mum. She would co-host the 5th episode of the show with Bryan Wong. 'Glamour Mum and The Dude' is telecast on every Friday night, 8 pm. Other than 'The Undisclosed', MediaCorp TV Channel 8 is also currently re-running another two of Biren's drama series! Biren's role may be small in both dramas as they were filmed when she just started out, its nevertheless good to see her acting skills in her early days! =) The 2 dramas are:

Wishing Well (1990 SBC drama) - Thursdays to Saturdays at 3 am to 4 am
The Village Hero (1990 SBC drama) - Mondays to Thursdays at 11 am to 12 pm

Bi Ren's only drama serial for Year 2006 is currently being re-telecast! The Undisclosed is now shown on Mediacorp's Channel 8, Weekdays 11 pm to 12 am.

This drama serial is extremely interesting, talking about a murder case. Bi Ren plays Yan Ke Xin in this drama, a police inspector investigating the myths of the disappearance of her good friend Carol. Rated as the 9th most watched drama during its original run while her co-star, Li Nan Xing won Best Actor in the Star Awards 2006. Those of you who are willing to stay up till late at night can consider re-watching. :)
